SOURCE APPORTIONMENT: CASE STUDIES OF SELECTED AFRICAN COUNTRIES[]


Air pollution has been a major concern throughout the world, Africa inclusive. Particulate Matter (PM) is an area of concern because of the health implications. Source appointment is the technique used in identifying and quantifying the sources of ambient air contaminants. Apportionment studies are on the increase, in the light of this, the paper reviewed the some source apportionment studies in Africa. The review started with the aim and objectives of the emission inventory, sampling, chemical analysis and results and recommendations were discussed.


SHOULD I GO OR SHOULD I STAY? EXPLORING THE MINDS OF GAY SCHOOL HEADS[]


The purpose of this case study was to give light to the experiences of gay school heads and raise awareness on gender sensitivity and equality in the school community. This study may inspire gay school heads to strive more in their careers in the academe and for the community to understand gay school heads on the bases of their performance and achievement regardless of sexual orientation. Five informants were picked to undergo in-depth interview. For triangulation, people who knew the informants were carefully interviewed. They were also made to sign informed consents with the assurance of anonymity and confidentiality.


Microcontroller Based Fan Speed Regulator with Continuous Monitoring using LCD Display[]


Design and implementation of Microcontroller based automatic Fan speed regulator using temperature sensor is represented here. Most of the available Fans today are controlled manually by voltage regulators which have different stages of speed. During summer nights, especially the room temperature is initially quite high, as time passes, the temperature starts dropping. Also, after a person falls asleep, the metabolic rate of one’s body decreases, and one is expected to wake up from time to time to adjust the speed of the Fan. Many people who are disabled / physically challenged persons are affected the most because of the inconveniences associated in changing the Fan speed level manually when the room temperature changes. So, an efficient automatic Fan speed control system that automatically changes the speed level according to the change in environment / room temperature which is more comfortable than manual system. This project has been designed in such a way that the required components are available in local market. Therefore an indigenous low cost control scheme has been developed which can be used in real life application.


In-Network Data & Secure Communication Processing In Sensor Nodes[]


In-network data processing in sensor nodes is a fastly emerging research topic. The distributed processing could have several advantages for sensor nodes. This computation is typically much less energy consuming than communication and in-network processing enables WSN to provide more complex services to application layer, and not only data gathering functionality. However, in addition to computational overhead, in-network data processing introduces also many challenging security issues. Most of them are still open and require development of innovative security systems. In this article we survey the present research related to security of in-network data processing in sensor nodes and highlight the directions, which are most promising in our opinion. In this work we present a way that can be applied in sensor nodes in order to provide secure and authenticated in-network processing. It utilizes nodes which are responsible for data assembling and command diffusion. The proposed model is simple and scalable and exhibits resiliency against node capture and replication as compromised nodes cannot be used to calculate and eventually take over the network. It also allows for dynamic addition of new nodes and eviction of compromised ones by requiring minimum involvement of the base station. Finally, it is designed so that the majority of the sensors have to store only two keys plus a hash value, minimizing the storage capacity needed for the method to operate.


CASSAVA CULTIVAR PARTICULES MOTION AND BEHAVIOURAL ANALYSIS IN A HOT AIR STREAM OF A VERTICAL PNEUMATIC DUCT[]


Flash drying of cassava cultivar is faced with challenges of lump formation and particles growth process in a vertical pneumatic duct lead to milling and particle discretization with screens or cyclones. The moisture content of the cultivar , pre-treatment of the cultivar and particles size before feeding into the duct, collision or impact of the particles in the hot air stream , gelatinization of cassava marsh and the feeding mechanism affect the particle size, formation and drying of the product. This paper x-rayed the processes involved in the particle size and lump formation due to collisions, air stream flow in laminar or turbulence and the drying kinetics in the long vertical pneumatic duct. Suggestions are made to minimize particle lump formation resulted from collision in gelatinization phase. Creation of gelatinization chamber before feeding and subsequent vortex formation and turbulence along the duct will help to cause particle discretization and losing in the flash duct and this intermittent incorporation of the C D channels that helps in building pressure and reducing pressure resprctively.


CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF PALM KERNEL SHELL DEFORMATION, CRACK DEVELOPMENT AND FRACTURE /FAILURE IN A HOLLOW ROTOR CRACKER[]


Cracking of palm kernel nuts is an integral part of the palm kernel oil processing. The effectiveness of cracking as regards kernel recovering with a little or no lost of kernel through breaking becomes paramount as it initiates further processing through which kernel oil is gotten. This work deepens into analysis deformation of kernel shell, crack growth, and fracture / failure of the shell as it result to spontaneous collision with the stony wall of the shelling drum and shattering of the shell and the kernel under this impact load. It also x-rayed parametric factors that. the kernel shell though hard but a brittle material with maximum deformation d_max (m),and stiffness k,(N/m),mass of kernel nut m, (kg),angular speed ? (rad/sec) of the rotor, the diameters of the rotor and the shelling drum and hardness of the shelling drum wall affect cracking in the shelling environment while other physical properties of palm kernel nut –its sphericity,degree of digestion from the digester ,moisture content and instantaneous position during impact , and shell thickness are not under mind.


PREDICTING REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE COSTS OF AGRICULTURAL TRACTORS IN NIGERIA[]


Repair and maintenance cost of some agricultural tractors were investigated using the Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme (ENADEP) as case study. The study was limited to two most available tractor models namely – Massey Fergusson (MF) and Fiat tractors. Investigations were focused on determining the relationship between the accumulated hours of usage and total accumulated repair and maintenance costs as well as the general fixed and operating costs of the tractors under government owned management system.


Review article: Solid dispersion currently practiced in pharmaceutical field[]


Improvement of bioavailability of hydrophobic drugs is a great challenge. Over the years a variety of solubilization techniques have been studied and widely used, as more than 40% newly drugs are poorly water soluble in pharmaceutical field. To improve such solubility issues, solid dispersion technique is widely used. This article reviews different technologies of solid dispersion, current trends, advantages and criticisms. The remaining portion of this article is focused on various formulations which are marketed by solid dispersion technology.


PETROLEUM HYDRATION WITH ALUM DEHYDRATION[ ]


To control pollution and to get maximum mileage in commercial Diesel, Ammonium Alum is used in this experiment. The samples are prepared like 5grams of powdered Ammonium Alum in 250ml commercial Diesel, 10grams of powdered Ammonium Alum in 250ml commercial Diesel, 15grams of powdered Ammonium Alum in 250ml of commercial Diesel for 2 hours (from 11am to 1pm) time with in room temperature 35-40oC. The Gas Chromatography experiments with Bruker GC430 and IR experiments with Bruker Alpha are done. The GC report of Original Diesel, 250ml sample indicates eleven components (11). The GC report of 250ml Diesel sample with 5grams of powdered Ammonium Alum show only one component (1). The GC report of 250ml Diesel sample with 10grams of Ammonium Alum shows three components (3). The GC report of 250ml Diesel sample with 15grams of Ammonium Alum show seventeen components (17). Results follow.
