Nigerian Youth Audience Perception of New Media and Virtual Relationships[]

The explosion of digital media content and access devices in recent times has led to the availability of more information. More individuals now have access to, almost inconceivably, incredible vast information repositories that have become increasingly portable, accessible, and interactive in both delivery and formation. As a result of this development, basic human activities have changed and new possibilities have emerged. Human relationships are now being cultivated and to some extent consummated via the digital world. Young Nigerians have joined the bandwagon by utilizing social media platforms to establish social connections and virtual relationships. Using the survey research method, this study tried to establish how much the new media has been a platform for sustaining emotional relationships among youths and ascertain how the audience perceives these virtual relationships. A sample size of 300 post graduate students was drawn from five universities in the South East zone of Nigeria. The study reveals that the audience perceive the new media as a platform where relationships take place as a welcome development; a greater number among the respondents have contracted relationships via the virtual platforms but assert ed that so many of these virtual relationships have not led to a lasting union.

Estimation of external gamma dose and annual effective dose OF NORMS FROM MINING ACTIVITIES OF KENTICHA TANTALUM MINES IN ETHIOPIA []

In this study radiological hazards and risks to members of the public and workers from exposure to natural radioactivity as a result of mining activities from the Kenticha Tantalum Mines in Ethiopia, have been studied using direct gamma spectrometry to determine 238U, 232Th and 40K in tantalum ore, soil, waste and waste tailing. Based on the results obtained, the relative activity concentration of 238U, 232Th and 40K has been published in IJOART with paper ID-AJ029542. Using the previously data of activity concentrations, this paper discussed the absorbed dose, annual effective dose, radiological hazard and cancer risk assessment associated with NORM. The average external dose rate at 1m above the ground in air were 76.407 nGy/h, 71.337 nGy/h, 85.408 nGy/h, respectively which were above worldwide average value of 60 nGy/h. The annual effective doses from total external terrestrial radiation except radon and cosmic were also estimated as 0.021 +- 0.003mSv, 0.020 +- 0.001mSv and 0.023 +- 0.004mSv for ore, soil and solid waste samples, respectively. The average annual effective dose was found to be lower than the worldwide average of 0.07mSv/y. Annual effective dose was evaluated from only external gamma dose rate. A critical analysis of is presented in the main body of this paper. Generally, the results from this study need further research for the management of NORM wastes in the Kenticha tantalum mine in Ethiopia.

Bed Scenes Allurement as Entertainment and Selling Point in Nigeria's Nollywood Movie Industry []

We report on bed scenes allurement as entertainment and selling point in Nigeria's Nollywood movie industry. In recent times, there has been an increase in the portrayal of bed scenes inNollywood movies. Before now, Nigerian film producers have been very conservative when itcomes to showing sex and nudity. This appears to have changed in line with global trends. Movieindustries all over the world appear a haven for delectable women who glamorize our screens, not only with their beauty but also their acting skills. At Hollywood, Bollywood, Ghollywoodand the like, pretty actresses with sensuous endowments engage in bed scenes which allure theminds of viewers. The idea that, a ravishing beauty on cast is as good as a box office hitapparently drives Nigerian film producers to incorporate bed scenes in their movies. In this era ofsex crusade where what sells is sex and maybe a little bit of violence, there is the suggestion thatproducers believe that if the talent of an actress doesn't do the trick, the sexiness she exudes isbound to get attention. Against this backdrop, our study examined bed scenes depiction byNollywood films, in an attempt to establish if theirallurement influences the choice of movie andpurchase decisions of targetmarkets. We assessed Nollywood films and viewer preference usingthe mixed method approach. Our findings reveal that bed scenes, as portrayed inNigerianmovies are a significant determinant of which films to watch and which films to purchase amongthe respondents studied.

PREDICTION MODEL FOR INTERNSHIP DEPLOYMENT USING DECISION TREE []

This paper aims to predict the performance of Computer Science students based on their General Point Average (GPA) in Eng- lish, Mathematics and Programming courses as basis for internship deployment. The study applied decision tree algorithm to classify the student performance with prediction result of 90.91% for Competent, 66.67% for Capable and 100% for Challenged. This result will provide the institution to assess the preparedness of the students in the workplace.
